ABOUT PALLIATIVE CARE

Palliative Care is a multidisciplinary approach to specialized medical and nursing care for people with life-limiting illnesses. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress and mental stress of a terminal diagnosis.

Palliative Care seeks to enhance quality of life of both children and families, prevent or minimize suffering and provide opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. This results can be achieved through a combination of active and compassionate therapies, intended to comfort and support the child, the family members and other significant people involved in the child's life.

Palliative Care is not meant to hasten death, nor to prolong suffering. Instead, it aims to guide and assist the child and family in making the best decisions possible for whatever time they have remaining together.
